Planning A Valentine's Day Fundraiser Dance

The first thing you need to host a Valentine's Day fundraiser dance is a location. If you are a school group or a community center, you may already have a gym or large function room in your facility where the dance could be hosted. If not, look into renting space from a town building, community center, function hall, or recreation center.

You will need to check with your local town/city hall to see if there are permit requirements. Ask about

• Capacity for the space you are using
• Special use permits
• Fire or occupancy permits/inspection requirements

In most cases, the presence of a police or security officer will not be required, but it may be a good idea anyway; some school and municipal groups may be required to hire a security officer. If you plan on hiring a security professional, contact your local police department for rates for off-duty officers and/or recommendations.

This takes care of most of the administrative work of hosting a Valentine's Day dance, but you still have work to do.

• Meet with your fundraising committee to discuss theme and decorations
• Organize food sales and/or vendors
• Invite area businesses to sponsor your Valentine's Day fundraiser dance
• Organize work crews for shopping, supply procurement, set up, event staffing, and clean up
• Set rates for admission and on-hand sales
• Advertise and sell tickets for the dance

A great Valentine's Day dance requires effort and organization. Planning is the key to hosting a successful Valentine's Day dance fundraiser, so be sure to recruit plenty of volunteers, leave yourselves plenty of time for planning, organizing, and advertising the event, and along the way, don't forget to have a little fun and get into the mood of the day!
