How Communities Are Benefiting From Clean And Green Fundraising Campaigns

Environment, environment, environment. Our world's environment is on the top of our minds—for very good reason. Environmental responsibility is not just for the home, however, greener living is for every life task—home, school, recreation, and work. And that includes what we're talking about here—fundraising.

There are many ways fundraising groups can inject an aspect of environmental friendliness into their fundraising campaigns. Groups can run low-paper and no-paper fundraising campaigns; they can reduce, reuse, and recycle products, like paper and wood products, used for marketing and order collection. And they can choose to run a collection-based fundraiser that earns cash while cleaning up the homes, offices, and outdoor world around them.

Many groups can easily recognize the individual benefits enjoyed when they run an environmentally friendly fundraising campaign; most prominently, collection campaigns are easy and profitable, and low-waste campaigns save significant money on paper and office products. But what many groups miss is the larger impact their green campaign is having on the world around them. Green fundraising campaigns do a lot to enhance the local community, and this extends ultimately to the world as a whole.

Look at all the good a single, small, green fundraising campaign can do:

  • Cleaner community living—fundraisers like bottle and can collections keep refuse off street-sides, and remove what is there, making for cleaner, nicer curbsides all around
  • Reclaimed open-spaces—cleanup and collection initiatives help reclaim sullied open municipal space for cleaner land, air, and water, giving citizens healthy places to play
  • Gardens and outdoor spaces built through efforts like brick fundraisers provide plants that scrub the air clean of toxins, and again, provide clean, green, public spaces
  • Reducing materials and recycling items like printer cartridges, cell phones, bottles, and cans cuts down on the need for new products, saving valuable resources and reducing emissions from plants producing new products

One of the biggest benefits of green campaigns is the pay-it-forward educational aspect of green campaigns. When your group lets people know you are taking great pains to reduce waste and improve your community (and your world), community awareness of environmental issues is increased. Clean, green, fundraising groups become leaders in environmental education and practice. Their efforts show how easy, beneficial, economical and profitable green living can be. A sense of responsibility spreads to supporters who can feel good about recycling for a good cause, and supporting a group with a conscience. To be sure, fundraising with the environment in mind does far more than make and save money for your group; environmentally friendly fundraising makes your community a better place to live.
