Increase Online Income By Avoiding Fees And Through E-Mail Campaigns

In the age of the internet, moving many, if not all of your fundraising efforts onto the World Wide Web is an intelligent choice. But there are a number of things that you should be aware of when you make this transition. With a bit of research and understanding up front, you will be able to make the choices that will both benefit your cause the greatest and also cause the least amount of work (and headache) for you and the organization.

Be careful when you pick a fundraising program

As a word of caution, remember that there are those on the internet, as in all other aspects of life, that are out there only to benefit themselves. It is an unfortunate fact that there are sites and services on the web that will profess to be ‘fundraising’ sites, but in fact will charge you so much in fees, or require so many hoops for you and your members to jump through, that it is unlikely that you will ever see a profit. For example, they may require that you fulfill a certain number of sales before you begin to get a percentage of what is sold. So that if you don’t ever sell ‘enough’, then you don’t receive any funds. This means that you could spend a great deal of energy selling their products for them and never getting any money in return. Or, these companies may use your name and cause as a means to get their ‘foot in the door.’ You don’t want your name being associated with sales tactics, SPAM or other materials that you wouldn't approve of.

"Fee free" companies and organizations are out there

You can avoid these situations by making it a priority to look for organizations that don’t charge you a fee or take a ‘cut’ off of your profits. Why would they be willing to do this, you might wonder? Well, the answer could be one of several. They may be a non-profit organization themselves, and so are able to raise funds via donations, grants or other means and so do not need to take a portion of your funds. Or, they may be a company that is able to raise money through advertising to pay for expenses (like houseoflinks.com is), and so they market themselves to those companies that will appreciate the fact that they don’t charge groups and organizations any fees to raise funds.

Market your fundraiser yourself - you can do it!

You can also help to increase your funds raised by aggressively marketing yourself. Be sure to use the tools that your online fundraiser offers, such as newsletters or mailing lists, so that you can keep in communication with those that have supported you. If your online fundraising company is the ‘shopping mall’ type of service, then sending out ‘reminder’ emails to your mailing list around the holidays or other special occasions will help those donors to remember that they can support you again as they do their related shopping. Plus, you can keep them posted on what all of their donations have achieved. Building these types of relationships with your donors will help you to be sure that they move from being just a one time donor to a regular patron of your program.
